Remove Category From Your URLs With Yoast’s SEO Plugin

We will use Yoast’ SEO plugin in this step. You need to install Yoast’s SEO plugin at first. After installing and activating the plugin, follow the following steps:

  1. Go to Yoast SEO
  2. Click on Advanced
  3. Click on the Permalinks tab
  4. You will see something like this -> Check Strip the category base (usually /category/) from the category URL.
  5. Click on the Remove option and you are done with removing the category from URLs.

Remove Category Base From Your URLs With .htaccess

You need to be careful with this option as you are going to edit the .htaccess file. Before editing this file, please backup your .htacess file.  You need to add the following line of code in the .htaccess file to remove the category base.
RewriteRule ^category/(.+)$ http://www.site.com/$1 [R=301,L]

Remove Category URL Plugin

In this method, we will use a plugin called as a Remove Category URL plugin to remove the category base. It’s a very simple and easy to use plugin.  This plugin will remove the ‘/category/’ from your permalinks ( e.g. unowp.com/category/new-post/ to unowp.com/new-post ).
